Coastal Voyages

Fly to Bergen, famous as the birthplace of Edvard Grieg and the gateway to
the fjords, where the voyage begins. Everyday life is left behind and after
making several brief calls along the unspoilt coast the ship passes Norway’s
western most point – Stadtinlet, and heads across the open sea to the
delightful town of Ålesund. Completely rebuilt after a fire in 1904 in Art
Nouveau style and situated across several islands at the entrance of
Geirangerfjord, the town is remarkable for its natural and man-made beauty.
Trondheim, Norway’s former capital city and our next major stop, is a
complete contrast with its wooden buildings, including the impressive 18th
century Stiftsgården Palace, brightly painted wharves and warehouses and the
14th century Nidaros Cathedral. Our next landmark is invisible! The ship
will cross the Arctic Circle shortly before our stop at the modern town of
Bodø and passengers will receive a certificate from Neptune to mark the
occasion. More daring passengers may take part in a ceremony to celebrate
this momentous event.
Later in the day the grandeur of the Lofoten Islands is revealed. At Svolvær,
the capital, there is time for an after dinner stroll. Nearby, the world’s
first Ice Gallery ‘Magic Ice’ illustrates the thrilling story of the islands
and their people with dramatically lit ice sculptures and music.
The voyage ends in Tromsø, the capital of Arctic Norway.
